If you are like me and still have an ADSL line with crappy upload speeds or you have free bandwidth during off-peak hours that you do not use, this method will save your bandwidth and upload your youtube videos while you sleep.
As far as I can find on the internet, there is no simple way of doing this and no option on youtube to schedule your uploads. There is an option to schedule your video publishing time, but this article NOT about that.
In short, this is what you need to do to upload your videos during off-peak hours
This might sound like a mouth full, but the setup and scheduling are done once and after that, all you have to do is to copy your new file into your upload folder.
Download and install Google Drive & Backup. You do not have to use it for any other files other than the videos you like to upload. But of course, you can use the way you want.
I have created a folder on my desktop where I copy the videos I like to schedule for upload and set up my Google Drive & Backup just to sync that folder and the most important part is to tick the option to “Upload newly added photos and videos to Google Photos”
I also don’t want to sync down anything from my Google Drive so I just deselect the option.
The last important setting is to unselect the option to “Open Backup and Sync on system startup” as that will start Google Drive & Backup and that will defeat the whole purpose of this How-To :)
Schedule a Start and Stop task with Windows Task Scheduler
Now you can just go to bed and the next morning your video will be uploaded to Google Photos.
Go to your YouTube channel and click the upload video link.
Do NOT click the select file main option, but click the Link “UPLOAD WITH CLASSIC”. It will ask you why you like to use the old method. I just select the tick box “something is missing from the new uploader” and state that import from Google photos is missing, but you can just skip the option now and then :)
At this point, you will see the Google Photos logo and “IMPORT VIDEOS” Click the import button and select your newly uploaded video and go through the options. When you are done, you can also open the YouTube studio and edit the video with the latest options in the new upload version.
And that is that for this work-around. Hope you find it useful!
